It Could Never Happen to Me: Disaster Planning for Your Library

Guest speakers: Jenny Goodemote and Ron Kirsop, Wood Library;
Leah Hamilton, Phelps Community Memorial Library

What would you do if your library were suddenly faced with a disaster? Whether it is damage caused by wind, water, fire or ice, would you know what to do if faced with the unexpected? It is human nature to not relish planning for catastrophe, but essential for the wellbeing of your library, employees and patrons. To minimize the effects, preparation is imperative.

Hear the recent experience of Wood Library’s Jenny Goodemote and Ron Kirsop as they tell how they recovered from water damage that severely damaged their library. Learn how to write a disaster plan from Leah Hamilton (former Assistant Disaster Recovery Coordinator at the University of Rochester Libraries) for your library and what resources are available to help you respond to events quickly and efficiently.

Facilitator: Pat Finnerty
