Program

logo-act.gif All About ACTRochester

ACTRochester.org is the data source for Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming and Livingston counties.

Join ACTRochester Program Director Ann Johnson for a tour and brainstorming session about how public libraries can capitalize on the site's fact-based assessment of counties' performance on key indicators of well-being. Ann already has some ideas for library - ACTRochester - collaborations, including:

  • Co-sponsorship of a county/community discussion around the well-being of the community
  • Hosting a presentation for the public to learn about ACTRochester as a resource and research tool
  • Hosting a hands-on training session for using the site
  • Creating an engagement process around highlighting county initiatives and resources
Information on the site could also be useful in advocacy efforts with elected local, county and state officials through a comparison of areas of need with services offered by public libraries.

Ann feels that her time with us would be most effective if attendees are able to take a look at the website in advance, so please try to take at least a quick look at www.ACTRochester.org before the meeting.

After the system meeting: Youth Yak

Youth Yak is a time for Youth Services Specialists to network and glean solutions and ideas from your colleagues
Topics:

  • Professional development/support for Youth Services Specialists. Discussion of ways this works in PLS.
  • Bring 3 narrative nonfiction (not fact stressing series NF) titles to share for a bibliography to be developed. (Not all picture books). As part of the new Common Core the schools are dealing with, students 2-12 are being required to read narrative non-fiction. Many school libraries lack this genre of nonfiction. As public libraries, this is a void we can help them fill, especially until they have time and resources to build their collections in this area.
  • Participants' Choice. Any other sharing of ideas you wish to bring forth!
Lunch can be ordered from Mac's or bring your own. Mac's is $7.00-$7.75. Contact Heidi by 10 a.m. Friday hjensen@pls-net.org
