Program
Collaboration with Targeted Populations in Mind Build support thorough collaborations with local agencies and organizations, which can help your stakeholders and funders view the library’s role in a different light. We know we’re more than books, storytimes and summer reading, but do they? Harness the power of an effective collaboration to gain a stronger foundation in your community, and to attract new patrons who might not otherwise walk through your doors.
Representatives from Livingston County for the Aging and Wayne County Literacy Volunteers will discuss their agencies, collaborations, and ideas.
- Andrea Tillinghast-Thompson from Red Jacket will discuss how she has used a collaboration to build successful funding support while providing needed information to her community.
- Andrea's powerpoint presentation: RJ_Outreach_2011.pdf
After the system meeting:
Youth Yak - Noon-1:30pm
Inclusive Library Programming for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). It is estimated that 1 in every 110 children is diagnosed with ASD. Their presence can be a wonderful reward when the library becomes a special place where they and their parents feel comfortable and included. Please register on the Calendar of Events. Order lunch from Heidi by 10 a.m.
Jill Mundy, Autism Coordinator at the Autism Diagnostic & Evaluation Clinic at Happiness House in Geneva will be our speaker. She will address these areas:
• Helping staff to adjust responses to children with autism to ensure positive experiences all around
• Ways to include children with ASD in summer reading programs
• Ways to provide inclusive activities in preschool storytimes
A list of resources for children and adults for collection development purposes can be found here.
