You've discovered bed bugs in your library - now what?

Patty Uttaro and Sally Snow from the Monroe County Library System will cover anything and everything related to bed bugs and libraries. They'll cover the logistics of what to do when bed bugs are discovered in the library and how to best manage the public conversations and possible misconceptions around the topic.

Bed Bug Info
  • Eradicated after WWII, but brought back due to more travel, lack of awareness
  • Not socio-economically related
  • They are nocturnal and feed on blood, but can go 3 momths without a meal
  • You can find them behind wall hangings, couch cushions, book edges, toys, materials, people
  • Inspection is key - look on book spines, remove DVD's from cases, recorded books, furniture screw holes
  • Put everything contaminated in plastic bags
  • Treatment: clear area, exterminate (encase, heat, fumigation)
  • Have a plan for crisis communication, including a press release
