Program:
- 2-1-1/Life Line: "The Tom and Andrea Show"
- Where do you draw the line and find the balance as a library staff member?
- Library staff can show compassion and empathy while providing people with resources, but it is ultimately up to the patron to decide how they use those resources on their own
- Code of Conduct at the library
- Allows patrons to know the boundaries
- Allows staff members to be protected
- www.librarytrustess.org
- Provides examples of Codes of Conduct
- Be aware of the "over-policy"
- Do not write a policy based on one single situation
- Do not write a policy for something that could possibly happen in the future
- Librarians empower and help patrons, they do not do it for the patron
- If a patron is in front of you with a question, instead of Google, try 2-1-1
- Recommendations
- Touch base with your local police department to build a relationship with them prior to an issue arising
- If the police need to be contacted, reference CPEP on the telephone so they know the situation they will be dealing with
- Provide helpful paperwork in the bathrooms where those in need can descreatly take a small card or tear-off
- Be mindful of when to contact the police
- Know the difference between a dangerous person and someone just monopolizing your time
- Remember that the library is meant to be a welcoming space for everyone
- "Parking Lot" Items -- Andrea will discuss these at another date
- Policy and Procedure Manuals

- Specific age settings can be adjusted through Evergreen depending on the library's choice
- Some libraries may choose to have a juvenile patron be anyone under 18 years of age, or it may be 13 and under, etc.
- Items in a specific location of the library could also potentially be fine free
- For current fine information and questions, contact Lindsay for more assistance
- This is a decision that would have to be made by the library board, so each library could opt for different features
