Program: Reaching Your Homeschool Population
Panel: Wilma Miller, Julie Burgess (homeschool parents), Jessica DeMarte (Avon Library), and Cheryl Northup (Wyoming Library)
Since the 1990s, the rise in homeschooling has had a tremendous impact on public libraries. Nearly 1.1 million children are being homeschooled in the U.S.,
according to the National Center for Education. Of that number, 78% indicate that they use the public library as their primary source for learning materials.
But how do we reach this population? What are their needs and requirements and how can we best serve them? You will hear from a panel of librarians and
homeschooling parents, who will shed some light on this population and how we can best meet their needs.
Facilitated by Pat Finnerty and Tanya Thompson
