System Meeting: January 19, 2018


  • Annual Report Workshop: January 29th (Cindy)
    • This workshop is hands-on so bring your paperwork!
    • Packets will be sent to all libraries via delivery early next week
    • Register via PLS calendar
      • There is also a GoToMeeting option (more info on PLS calendar & in PLS Notes)
  • Early Literacy (Hope)
  • Scholarships (Hope)
    • Those who have not received scholarships in the past will be prioritized but everyone should apply!
  • Computer & Phone Updates (Adam)
    • All operating systems are vulnerable and at risk
      • CANS will be going to every library to do updates on every public computer
        • Computers older than 5 years are no longer secure
        • They will contact each library individually to schedule a time to visit during normal business hours
          • They will need full access to all computers while at the library
      • CANS will work on something that can be sent out to the community/patrons to make them aware of this situation
  • LibCal Demo (Andrea)
    • January 26th Youth Yak - attendees will be beta testers and can make 2 real reservations!
    • Will go live on February 16th (February System Meeting)
  • Walk In Their Shoes (Andrea)
    • Poverty Simulation at BOCES: February 8th
      • Sign up early…this is open to all RRLC libraries AND PLS member libraries
  • Digital Resources Promotion (Andrea)
    • Small information cards for OverDrive & Libby will be sent to each library next week via delivery
  • Advocacy Day (Lauren)
  • Grants & Fees Document (Lauren)
    • This document will be going out to libraries next week; Each is encouraged to share at their library board meetings
  • System Satisfaction Survey 2017 (Lauren)
    • 29 responses for this survey
    • Please follow up with PLS with any questions or concerns mentioned in the survey
  • Construction Grant (Ron)
    • Submit any time now through May 25th
    • More information to come soon…

    • Deadline to register this year is January 24th - contact Hope Decker for more information

  • NYLA 2018 Budget Priority - State Library Aid
    • This information is avaiable on NYLA website
    • Increase state aid proportionally with education funding
    • Fund the Public Library Capital Aid Program at $30M

  • PLS can link directly to our catalog
    • Automatic duplication title notifications since it is comparing orders to titles in our system
  • 45% discount on trade titles through Ingram via NYS publishing contract
    • A copy of the contract is available electronically

    • PLS receives shipments from Pennsylvania and Tenessee distruction centers

    • Standing Orders are readily available
      • No faxes; must go online to make all adjustments
      • Email notification of titles available
    • All invoices are sent in the box with delivery but are also available on iPage for 3 years
