Program: Remember Books? The Best of 2009

Remember Books? The Best of 2009. We will share books. Bring a book published in 2009 that was a favorite for you or patrons of your library in 2009. For any age. This year we will focus on one of the five Readers’ Advisory “Appeal” characteristics: "Pacing". Prepare a minute to a minute and a half to talk about your book. You might choose to talk about one or more of these in describing why others would want to read this book:

Pacing is how fast or slowly a book reads.
· Are characters and plot quickly revealed or slowly unveiled?
· Is there more dialogue than description?
· Is the book densely written?
· Are there short sentences, paragraphs, and chapters?
· Multiple plot lines, flashbacks, or alternating chapters related from different points of view or a straight-line plot?
· Changing point of view
· Do characters act or re-act to events?
· Is the book end-oriented or open-ended?
· What is the pattern of the pacing?

If you are bringing a Nonfiction title, other things you can consider are:
* What about the topic made the reading compelling?
* Who is the audience? – specialist in the field or

A BookLetters "Best of the Year" will be compiled. (Email your title to Ellen as a heads up, and she will start compiling the list.)

Mystery Author A. P. Lazar

Author Aaron Paul Lazar will talk about his mystery books, including his third Gus LeGarde mystery Mazurka. He will be available for book sales and signing. (bring cash or check)
