Meeting Minutes - 9/17/14

Absent:Kelley Blue, Sarah Matthews, Theresa Streb, Stacey Wicksall

Minutes:

-Since a small percentage of library patrons do not know about Overdrive and ability to download book from the public library, promotion and marketing is needed. Pat to send out montly tips and tricks along with how to market the Overdrive collection.

-Wendy mentioned that it is much easier to download ebooks to various devices. Patrons are not calling/asking for assistance as before. Overdrive has excellent instructions and videos patrons and library staff can use to answer questions. These videos and materials could be used for library staff training.

-We reviewed the library 3% commitment forms. There are still a handful of library's who need to return form. Many libraries have indicated that they will contribute above their specified 3% amount. Committee discussed whether, in the future, we would recommend increaseing the 3% commitment level. Do we want to change the formula based on usage by library? Lauren to run different funding scenarios and will inform committee of possible funding alternatives.

-Weekly spending amount should be increased from $750 per week to $1,000, due to excess money in account. Please make sure you are buying on your assigned week. Pat to send out reminders to buyers.

-Pat to run various reports to break down Overdrive stats by genre (i.e. Fiction/NF/Juvenile, etc.) Committee thought it would be helpful to share info. at system meeting.

-Kristina at Geneva is no longer at the library. She had been buying Fiction as part of CBA. (CLAC decided that the CBA money could be used for buying Overdrive Fiction). Lauren to talk to Chris about spending this money now that Kristina is no longer at library.

-Wendy is buying the recommended titles based on patron requests. However, there seems to be a disconnect between when the patron requests a title and when it hits the cart. Wendy to look into this by placing a hold on a title herself and seeing how long it takes to appear in cart. Pat to check with Overdrive rep. as well.

-We discuused other ebook vendors (i.e. One-Click Digital, 3M, Enzi) and whether it makes sense to add another vendor. At this point, we decided that another vendor would be too confusing for patrons.

-Wendy and Pat looking into streaming videos, especially non fiction titles, available from Overdrive. This may be a good use of CBA funds.

-Lauren talking to Chris about possibility of Zinio purchased from CBA. Committee thought Zinio was a good option, but concerned about how libraries would fund and did not want to take money away from Overdrive pool.
