Evergreen 3.17 Upgrade: December 2-3, 2026
Introduction
We will upgrade from Evergreen 3.15 to Evergreen 3.17 overnight on Wednesday, December 2. When you log in on Thursday, December 3, you'll have these new features available to you. This page highlights changes from Evergreen 3.16 and 3.17 that are useful for member library staff.
Circulation
The patron summary gains information such as hold notification preferences. The privacy waiver indicator is more prominent, and the summary can show overdue items belonging to other patrons in the patron's group.
Email receipts from more screens
New actions allow staff to email receipts from
*Items Out*,
*Renew Items*, and
*Check In*.
Batch patron notes, alerts, and blocks
Patron batch editing now supports adding notes, alerts, and blocks to multiple patron accounts. Staff can access this functionality with a User Bucket.
Update inventory during in-house use
A new checkbox allows staff to update inventory information while recording in-house use.
- *Pull List for Hold Requests* is renamed *Holds Pull List*. Some screens may still use the previous wording.
- *Request Items* is renamed *Place Hold* in the staff catalog.
Cataloging and Holdings
Clear values with Unset
The ability to clear certain previously assigned values using
*Unset* has been restored in the Holdings Editor.
Import items from CSV when creating an item bucket
Item buckets can now be populated from a CSV file. This is useful when working with barcode lists from reports, inventory work, or collection projects.
Improved title display in Item Status
Title parts and numbers from MARC 245 subfields `$n` and `$p` now appear in the order recorded in the MARC record.
And more!
Shelving locations available to use in hold policies
Self-checkout bug fixes
- Automatic focus on the barcode input after patron logout
- Respects the "email checkout receipts by default" setting
A few additional changes that may be buggy
- Working items restored to Holdings Editor
- Updated pending patrons interface
Preparing for the upgrade
Before Wednesday, December 2
We recommend doing the following ahead of time before the upgrade to 3.17. On or before December 2, you should:
- Take note of the workstation name.

Each computer you use to login to Evergreen will have at least one workstation name. Your workstation name can be found in the green toolbar in the top right of the screen.
- Export a copy of your receipt templates if you ever print anything from Evergreen (receipts, hold shelf lists, etc.). Please note that exporting your print templates will create one single file that includes all of your templates; you don't have to export each template individually.
- There's no need to open your exported file. Please note that the file will download in JSON format. The data inside this file is structured and encoded and may be difficult to read (but not for Evergreen).
