Digitization Project Planning

Overview

Before starting a digitization project is is invaluable to define your reasons for digitization, what you expect to get out of a digitization project, what collections you plan to work with, what resources you have or can get to support the project, and how you will sustain your digital products and projects.

Policies

Just like other policies for the management of library reosurces, policies for digitization projects and digital resources can help guide your project. These can include:
  • Define the purposes for digitizing materials
  • Selection criteria for considering materials for digitization
  • Guidelines for rights and access
  • Who will be responsible for digitization activities
  • Requirements for digital formats, archiving, preservation, and access
  • Requirements for metadata and description
