PLS Notes June 26, 2020

Happy Friday! Here is this week's round up of news, information, and resources from the PLS team. As a reminder, PLS Notes is indexed on OWWL Docs under Member Library Documentation so past issues can be easily referenced.

All Things Google

At the System Meeting last Friday, Andrea reviewed many features included in Google Drive. If you are interested in learning more about Forms, Docs, Sheets, and Slides, The G Suite Learning Center has training guides, tips, tricks, and other resources to get you cloud computing like a pro in no time!

As a reminder, Google Drive is free to use; you just need to set up an account if you don't already have one (you can set up an account using your @pls-net email; you don't need Gmail/@gmail). If you want to go all bells and whistles, the full G Suite does have a nominal annual cost, but some fess have been waived through the end of September due to COVID-19.

And speaking of Google…

Google Fun Tip

Want to set a timer but don't have a watch or smart phone handy? Google can help!
  1. Go to the Google Search Page
  2. Type timer 5 minutes (or whatever time you want) and press enter
  3. A clock will appear and automatically start counting down!
Click the speaker icon to mute the alarm, and/or click the frame icon to switch to full-screen mode.

Bonus for Google Chrome users: You can just type timer 5 minutes into the location bar at the top of any page and press enter to activate the timer!

What doesn't Google do??

Help Desk Tickets > Sliced Bread

Did you know that you can easily get in the queue for Evergreen, Cataloging, and Tech support with just a few clicks? Visit pls-net.org, click Docs, and then point your mouse to Get Help in the top left. A drop-down list will appear with various Help Desk topics. Select the one that most closely aligns with your question/issue, fill out the form, and click Submit Request. A Help Desk ticket will be automatically created. This process also ensures that your question/issue gets sent to the Best PLS Problem Solver for the Job.

And speaking of PLS Problem Solvers…

Evergreen RAQ

Dan and Kathryn continue to add to the Recently Asked Questions page on OWWL Docs. Questions are numbered in chronological order. Inquiries added this week include: "Are patrons being sent email or text hold notifications? When we scan in items, some of them are showing that patrons are being notified by email or text."

Help Desk Tickets and emails to evergreen@pls-net.org are still welcomed and encouraged, but you may save time if your question has already been asked and answered on the RAQ page. Or, you can drop-in to Evergreen Drop-Ins…

Evergreen Drop-Ins

Evergreen Drop-Ins continue next week! Dan and Kathryn will be available LIVE to field your questions as libraries begin to resume modified services. Sessions will last one hour. Below is the login information for the next two sessions:
